Reporting nuisance in Maastricht: how to do it

Updated 14 August 2026 · 1 min read

A broken street light, loose paving stones, litter, noise or something suspicious: where to report it in Maastricht, and what you may expect.

A street light that is out, a loose paving stone someone trips over, litter that stays put, noise, or a spot that simply does not feel right. Reporting helps — but you need to know where.

The council: public space

For anything outdoors: broken lighting, loose paving, litter, vandalism, overhanging greenery, overflowing bins.

  • Online through the reporting form at gemeentemaastricht.nl
  • With the BuitenBeter app — you take a photo and the location goes along automatically
  • By phone on 14 043

Not sure whether it is the council’s business? Ring 14 043. That is also the number for when you cannot work it out.

The police: emergencies and offences

  • 112 in an emergency or a crime in progress
  • 0900-8844 for the police without urgency, or to report a crime
  • 0800-7000 for anonymous crime reporting

Noise

Where you report noise depends on the cause. An event, a building site, traffic or the neighbours each go to a different desk. In doubt ring 14 043 and describe what you hear and when.

Keep a log: date, time, how long it lasted. That makes a report far stronger than “it is always noisy here”.

What you may expect

You should hear what happened to your report. When that does not happen, it is precisely what SAB holds the council to: a report that vanishes into a system costs you effort and delivers nothing, and next time you will not bother.

Still nothing?

Report it again and note the date and time. If nothing changes, let us know through the help desk. We take it to the council — that is what a councillor is for.

Frequently asked questions

The council deals with public space: lighting, pavements, greenery, waste, and nuisance an enforcement officer can act on. The police deal with criminal offences and emergencies. In doubt, ring 14 043 and they will point you the right way.

With the council you normally report under your name, so they can get back to you. If it concerns a crime and you dare not give your name, there is Meld Misdaad Anoniem on 0800-7000.

Report it again and note the date and time. If it stays quiet, let us know through the help desk. Reports left lying around are exactly what SAB raises in the council.

In an emergency or a crime in progress, always ring 112. For nuisance without urgency ring the police on 0900-8844, or report it to the council the next day.
