Accessibility
SAB wants everyone in Maastricht to be able to use this website — including anyone who sees poorly, cannot hold a mouse, or uses a screen reader or magnification. This page sets out honestly how far we have got, what we do not yet know, and where you can report a problem.

How accessible is this site
We follow the WCAG 2.2 guideline at level AA. This was taken into account while building the site and we have tested it ourselves, but no independent accessibility audit has been carried out and it has not been tested by people who work with a screen reader or other assistive technology every day. So we are not claiming the site fully conforms — we are saying we have done our best, and that we would like to hear where it falls short.
SAB is a political party, not a government body. The legal duty on Dutch public bodies to publish an accessibility statement in the national register does not apply to us. This page is therefore here voluntarily, because we think it is the right thing to do.
What is built in
- The whole site can be operated from the keyboard. Every page starts with a “Skip to content” link, and it is clearly visible where the focus is.
- Text has a real heading structure, so a screen reader can jump through the page. There is one main heading per page.
- Every input field has a visible label. If something goes wrong, the error is stated in words next to the field and announced to the screen reader straight away — not signalled by colour alone.
- Images have alternative text. On decorative images it is deliberately empty, so a screen reader skips them.
- If you have “reduce motion” switched on in your system, we turn the animations off.
- The texts are written in plain language and the pages are kept short.
- The site works on a phone without sideways scrolling, and stays usable when you enlarge the text.
- There is not a single auto-playing video, carousel or pop-up anywhere on the site.
What we already know could be better
- The light blue headings just meet the required contrast for large text, but no more than just. Anyone who struggles with contrast may find them pale. We are looking at whether that blue can go a shade darker.
- The site is maintained by volunteers. On new articles and photos, an alternative text or a clear link text can occasionally slip through. If you spot one, do tell us.
- It has not been tested with every combination of browser and assistive technology. If something does not work in your setup, we only find out when you tell us.
- Documents we add later — a council motion as a PDF, for instance — are produced by the council and are not always accessible. If you run into one, we will send you the content in a readable form.
Reporting a problem
If you cannot manage on this site, we consider that a fault we want to know about. Email info@sab-maastricht.nl and describe, as best you can, which page it concerns and what happened. You are also welcome to phone us or speak to one of our people.
We respond within five working days. If we cannot fix it straight away, we tell you when we can — and make sure you get the information another way in the meantime. If you would rather arrange something by phone or on paper instead of through this site, that is always possible.
