Temporary support pillars have been placed in the parking garage of Lindenkruishof in Maastricht, because the concrete floor slabs could not properly bear the weight of the building. The municipality of Maastricht has now ordered the owners’ association (VvE) to carry out permanent repairs, backed by a fine.

What is happening?

A report of cracks in the garage came in at the start of February this year. An investigation took place in the summer, but it did not give a clear outcome. As a precaution, the municipality closed the area around the garage to heavy traffic. A new investigation, completed last month, shows that extra repair work is needed. Temporary support pillars have now been installed. According to the municipality, this has removed the immediate safety risk. The floor still needs to be permanently reinforced. The building manager expects this can be done within twenty weeks, once a building permit has been applied for and granted. The garage was built in 2015. Before the reports this year, the municipality says no earlier problems were known.

What does this mean for you?

If you live in Lindenkruishof or use the garage, this may affect your parking space and access to the building.

  • The support pillars are there to keep the garage safe during repairs.
  • Part of the area around the garage remains closed to heavy traffic.
  • Permanent repair work will only start once a building permit has been approved.
  • The owners’ association is responsible for carrying out the repairs, under pressure from the fine.
