On Saturday 17 October, the Denk Vooruit Bus will be parked on the Markt in the centre of Maastricht. The bus will be there from 16.15 to 18.45. Residents can stop by with questions about preparing for emergencies.

What is happening?

The Denk Vooruit Bus (Dutch for ‘Think Ahead’) is part of a national campaign called Denk Vooruit. It is a joint effort by the Rijksoverheid (Dutch national government), municipalities, safety regions, and other organisations. The goal is to help people know what to do during the first 72 hours of an emergency. This could include a power outage, extreme storms, or a wildfire. These situations can cause power, water, or internet to stop working temporarily.

A team will be present at the bus to talk with visitors. Using relatable examples and practical questions, they offer tips on how to prepare. You can also ask your own questions.

What does this mean for you?

No registration is needed. Just stop by between 16.15 and 18.45.

  • You will get practical tips on what to do during a power outage, severe storm, or other emergency.
  • You can find out what supplies to keep at home for the first 72 hours of an emergency.
  • You can also discuss how you might help neighbours or family in such a situation.

Good to know

More information about the campaign is available on the page Blijf 72 uur veilig (Stay safe for 72 hours). See also the source article from the municipality of Maastricht.
