The municipality of Maastricht has designated the neighbourhoods of Malberg and Daalhof as high-risk security areas. The measure starts on Friday 23 October at 5pm and lasts for six months.

What is happening?

In recent months, several reports came in about heavy fireworks being set off in Malberg and Daalhof. Because of how serious and frequent these incidents were, extra measures have been put in place. Both neighbourhoods now have the status of high-risk security area. This gives the police extra powers to act, including the ability to check people without needing a direct reason first. This allows for quicker action when needed.

What does this mean for you?

If you live in Malberg or Daalhof, you will notice more police presence in the coming months. Keep the following in mind:

  • Police can stop and search you, even without a direct reason.
  • The measure runs from Friday 23 October at 5pm for a period of six months.
  • The municipality, police and public prosecutor (Openbaar Ministerie) are monitoring the situation and may take further steps if needed.

The measure is intended to prevent dangerous situations caused by heavy fireworks, so that residents, visitors and emergency workers can feel safe in these neighbourhoods.
