Maastricht UMC+ hospital was difficult to reach by phone on Saturday morning. The cause was a technical outage at telecom provider KPN. The problem has since been resolved.

What is happening?

A technical fault at KPN affected both the landlines and other phone connections of the hospital on Saturday morning. Maastricht UMC+ was not the only one affected. Several other hospitals across the Netherlands experienced the same outage, including UMC Utrecht, Erasmus MC in Rotterdam and Radboudumc in Nijmegen. Some hospitals temporarily set up emergency phone numbers as a result. According to KPN, the issue involved a technical fault at one of its network locations, which affected several business customers. It has not been made public how many hospitals or other organisations were affected in total.

What does this mean for you?

If you tried calling Maastricht UMC+ on Saturday morning and could not get through, this was due to the outage and not the hospital itself. The issue has since been fixed.

  • You can now reach the hospital by phone as usual.
  • If you had an appointment or an important question that went unanswered because of the outage, contact the hospital again.
  • If it was an emergency, a temporary emergency number may have applied at the time. This is no longer needed.
