Regional buses strike Wednesday, delays expected in Maastricht
Regional bus and train staff partly strike next Wednesday. Expect delays or cancellations in Maastricht and the surrounding area.
Regional public transport staff partly go on strike next Wednesday. Unions FNV and CNV have called for action across the country. In Maastricht and the rest of Limburg, this may cause bus and train cancellations or delays.
What is happening?
The actions are linked to negotiations over a new collective labour agreement (cao) for public transport. The unions are asking attention for workload, work-life balance, and wages. The actions are planned to continue until Christmas. Which exact bus or train lines will be affected is only announced shortly before each action day.
In Limburg, regional transport is mainly run by Arriva. Some staff will join the strike. Because striking and non-striking employees often work on the same routes, many trips are still expected to be cancelled. Connections between buses and trains may also be disrupted as a result.
What does this mean for you?
If you plan to travel by bus or train in or around Maastricht on Wednesday, keep the following in mind:
- Buses and trains may be cancelled or delayed.
- Exactly which lines are affected is only known shortly before the day itself.
- Check your transport provider’s journey planner before you leave.
- Allow extra travel time, especially if you need to be somewhere on time.
- Consider an alternative, such as cycling or carpooling, if possible.
The actions may possibly continue after Christmas if no new agreements are reached.
